Acting on climate change

Consider this: According to a KPMG survey in Feb 2008 of 200 senior business executives, 85% think that climate change is a significant business issue and 77% think it will grow in importance. Despite this, 82% admit they still don't have a strategy in place to respond to climate change.

And how about this: Green spending in the UK has now overtaken the £28bn spent on alcohol and cigarettes (annual survey of ethical spending in the UK, Co-operative Bank). Over 50% of people say they prefer to buy products and services from companies with good environmental reputations (Ipsos MORI poll).

The writing is on the wall, loud and clear, business ethics sells. So why aren’t all businesses acting on climate change? Maybe it’s because it comes with risks and needs to be done properly to avoid causing more harm than good. Or maybe it's because businesses just don't know where to start.
